Edgework

ÜberMensch

EDGEWORK____ “Edgework” is a choreographic exploration of the human being as a field of tensions, contradictions, and irreducible inner frictions. Starting from the assumption that conflict does not come from the outside but is constitutive of the structure of the subject itself, the work focuses on a state of “being on the edge” — between orders of the self that coexist, yet never form a closed unity.

Movement here appears as a process of continuous negotiation without synthesis: an attempt to momentarily align scattered fragments, only for them to fall apart again in the next instant. Unity is neither a starting point nor a goal, but a fleeting effect of tension.

The focus is not harmony, but an existence in a state of discontinuity — of being shaped by forces that simultaneously connect and separate. The tension does not call for resolution; it remains the condition of possibility for self-experience.

“Edgework” does not seek to overcome conflict but to embody it. The body becomes the site where multiplicity is revealed — a space of intersecting impulses, and at the same time the only form in which this inner non-unity can be held, even if only for a moment.

ÜBERMENSCH____ At the heart of the performance lies the question: What does strength truly mean – in a time shaped by pressure to perform, technological promises, and the longing for control? The piece draws on the archetype of the hero – a figure that has stood in our culture for centuries as a symbol of power, independence, and superiority – and exposes this image as an illusion.

ÜberMensch does not present flawless heroic figures but instead reveals inner conflicts: the oscillation between strength and fragility, power and powerlessness, control and connection. Rather than telling a story of triumph over adversity, the performance opens a space for ambiguity, for moments of vulnerability, and for the realization that true strength may emerge precisely where the hero’s ideal fails.

ÜberMensch invites us to redefine strength: Is it an expression of power and dominance – or rather the ability to accept uncertainties and discover new forms of empathy and connection?

Premiere date & Avenue:
June 11, 2022 at Großes Haus- Theater Trier
Tour venues: Großes Haus- Theater Trier, Grand Théâtre de la Ville de Luxembourg

Brief description:
In Der Hund, Lucyna Zwolińska confronts the dehumanizing pace and pressure of contemporary life. The piece reflects on how time and productivity shape our bodies and identities, drawing a parallel to the way dogs are trained, commanded, and driven. In a world where efficiency often outweighs empathy, the work questions: at what point do we stop being human and start functioning like obedient, exhausted animals?

Noverre 2023_Stuttgart Ballet

Sweet Spot

Premiere date & venue:
January 25, 2023 at the Schauspielhaus Stuttgart

Sweet Spot explores the pursuit of a delicate balance point in life—the “sweet spot” where opposing forces meet. The piece invites contemplation on how to find harmony amid life’s contrasts, embracing vulnerability and strength simultaneously.

DEKAdance

Derived from the French “décadence” (decline) and the Latin “cadere” (to fall), the concept of decadence symbolizes a gradual unraveling of moral, cultural, and social structures. DEKAdance explores this idea through the lens of art and movement, blending these elements to shed light on the fragility of time, the fleeting nature of moments, and the profound consequences of modern disconnection.
By examining how the pursuit of temporary pleasures and consumer-driven lifestyles often leads to a loss of authenticity in relationships and a deeper sense of alienation, DEKAdance seeks to offer a nuanced reflection on the forces that shape our contemporary world.
